So tonight I was supposed to have an art installation of my 100 days of Vaginoplasty Project showcasing the healing process from vaginoplasty surgery at the Hennepin county library downtown Minneapolis in the Cargill Hall for the TransFabulous Exhibition. But my piece has been removed by the county for pushing the envelope too far and due to the content and the county not wanting "press" about it.
The whole point of this project was to educate and not hide away from public life that so often happens to transgender people. But the county has done just that.
Regardless of this development I'll be at the Cargill Hall at the downtown county library on Nicollet with my blank wall full of empty frames and my missing pieces if any of you want to join me from 7 - 8:30 PM. There will be a low key protest as there will be a didactic of information saying that the piece was removed from a establishment that is committed to education but county officials have had a hand in what the library is allowed to exhibit. This sets a precedent as to what the county deems acceptable and apparently transgender bodies are unacceptable to the county.
UPDATE: The Library Director has decided to allow the piece to go back up on the wall for as long as possible until/if county officials remove it. So please come and see it and all the other great artists in this show before it goes removed! We don't know how long the piece will remain on the wall so best come tonight! See you there.
